The passions are our real enemies, with whom we must waged eternal war. This war alone is the theme of the Mahabharata (Translated from Hindustani).
The six internal enemies of man are enumerated in the following verse :
Kam kradhasthatha lobho madmohhow che matsar:
‘Lust, anger, greed, pride, delusion and envy.’
Christianity lists these as the seven deadly sins: pride, wrath, envy, lust, gluttony, avarice and sloth.
